Vulnerable students are selected in collaboration with Aggie and the headteachers of the participating schools. These are often children who have recently lost one or both parents, children whose parents are seriously ill, or families who simply cannot afford the fees for primary education.

Without access to school, children spend their days helping in the village. This means they miss out on essential subjects such as English and mathematics. Without this knowledge, it becomes extremely difficult for them to build a future beyond their village or to ever find employment elsewhere.

At school, children are taught five core subjects. The school year begins in January/February and continues until the final exams in December, when students find out whether they can move on to the next grade. Primary school consists of seven years of education, from P1 to P7.
